Ingredients
Fresh coffee beans (ground coarsely), we recommend The Night Owl blend, if you'd like your coffee fruity or lighter consider one of our great single origin coffees.
We use a brew ratio of 16:1 or about 6 grams of coffee per 100ml of water.
So 18g grams of coffee for the small Bialetti Coffee Press and 60 grams for the large Bialetti Coffee Press.
Brewing Instructions
Bring a kettle of water to boil and pour some of the hot water into the French Press to preheat the carafe, let stand for 45 seconds while preparing your coffee.
Grind your coffee beans at a coarse setting. The grounds should come out about the size of kosher salt.
Empty the plunger, add the coffee grounds, place your plunger on the scale and tare, start your timer.
Your water should now be at about 96C, begin pouring it into the carafe in circles to saturate all of the coffee grounds evenly. Pour continuously until you reach the correct weight on the scale, then stop. Take a spoon or spatula (careful if it's metal not to touch the glass) and gently stir.
Place the lid on the french press , but don’t plunge. Let it brew for 4 minutes.
After four minutes have passed, remove the lid and gently scoop out the layer of foam and coffee grounds that have formed on the surface.
Replace the lid and gently press it down, slowly and carefully. Stop before you reach the grounds on the bottom, we don't want to stir up those settled fines.
Immediately pour the brewed coffee into cups or decanter to separate the coffee from the grounds.
